Orchard Therapeutics is clinical-stage biotechnology company developing transformative gene therapies for patients with severe inherited orphan diseases. The company was formed in September 2015 and was named a Fierce 15 Company by Fierce Biotech in 2016. As the company is rapidly expanding its pipeline of medicines for primary immune deficiencies and inherited metabolic disorders, we are looking to appoint a Senior Manager, Business Development & Alliance Management, to lead the expansion of the portfolio via external partnerships and manage existing academic and industrial alliances.

Working closely with the SVP Business Development & Alliance Management, the role requires a tenacious individual with a passion for cutting-edge science, strong organizational skills and a highly collaborative style.

The Business Development team is small, highly performing and plays a central role in Orchard Therapeutics. This is the first position of its kind opened in the London office and a unique opportunity to shape the rapid growth phase of a biotechnology company with a rich portfolio spanning from early stage to pre-commercial transformative gene therapy medicines.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Business Development
    • Work closely with R&D and Manufacturing teams to understand and support key strategic goals and associated business development activities
    • Lead evaluations of all aspects of therapeutic drug programs and technologies from preclinical through clinical stages across the relevant assessment areas: mode of action, preclinical data, proposed clinical benefit, manufacturing, regulatory strategy, clinical development path, intellectual property and commercial potential.
    • Structure due diligence process for in- and out-licensing activities, in coordination with all functional lines
  • Alliance Management
    • Pilot integration of acquired programs and IP into Orchard
    • Maintain and develop alliances with existing academic and industrial collaborators, in good intelligence with Program Management teams
  • Competitive intelligence
    • Monitor existing and upcoming programs and technology in Orchard’s fields of interest
    • Working with the Program teams / Commercial development teams, contribute to up to date comprehensive and informed overview of Orchard’s programs competitive positioning
    • Derive insights and recommendations for the Executive Leadership Teams
  • Non-dilutive funding management
    • Identify and lead application for EU and UK non-dilutive funding opportunities
    • Track and implement reporting of successful grant or loan applications
  • High scientific acumen and natural passion and curiosity for the gene therapy field
  • Knowledge of gene therapy market and competitive environment including deal activity and potential opportunities.
  • Demonstrated track record in successful management and execution of strategic collaboration, in-licensing and out-licensing agreements. Experience in other business transactions such as M&A transactions, joint ventures, co-promotions.
  • Demonstrated ability to positively interact and work in good intelligence with therapeutic and functional area leaders.
  • Outstanding presentation and communication skills, demonstrated ability to influence C-level management
  • Thrives in a rapidly evolving environment, with ability to lead in parallel strategic and tactical tasks
  • Strategic mindset, including the ability to identify the most relevant parameters driving a business decision and to focus the work accordingly
  • Strong analytical skills required to provide sound inputs into financial evaluations
  • Proven financial analysis skills
  • Strong business orientation and the ability to view issues from multiple functional perspectives, whilst managing organizational ambiguity
  • Past academic or industry experience in the field of cell and gene therapies (preferred)
  • Solid industry experience in biotech/pharma, including recent exposure to business development leadership roles and demonstrable track record of licensing, transaction or alliance management successful activities.
  • A background in science or medicine (MSc/PhD/MD) is preferred.
  • Must have an aptitude to quickly understand new science and technology.

Skills
